Mother of Pearl teardrops are accented with a Thai silver bead and a round Mother of Pearl bead. These delicate earrings measure approximately ½” - ¾”. Sterling silver ear wires. Natural variances in the Mother of Pearl beads and the handmade nature of Thai silver make each pair of earrings unique.
Mother of Pearl is the name given to the iridescent coating on the inside of mollusk shells. This is where the name creator (mother) of pearls comes from. In China, mother of pearl was used to treat heart palpitations, high blood pressure, said to stimulate imagination and help with decision making. It is also thought to be a symbol of faith and innocence.
No two pieces of Thai silver are alike. Each piece is handmade by the Karen Hill Tribe in Northern Thailand. The silver content of Thai silver is between 95-99%, compared with 92.5% in sterling silver.
